Green MSP Lorna Slater to take nature recovery ministerial role
Scotland’s first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, has announced her intention to appoint the Scottish Green Party’s Lorna Slater to a ministerial role covering biodiversity and nature recovery.
MSP for Lothian, Slater (pictured) will take on the role of minister for green skills, circular economy and biodiversity, working with the finance and economy secretary and net zero secretary.
She is one of two new ministers to be appointed by Sturgeon following the historic Bute House agreement, which for the first time anywhere in the UK will see members of the Green Party enter government, and for the first time since devolution will see a formal cooperation agreement in place in Scotland.
Green MSP for Glasgow Patrick Harvie will become minister for zero carbon buildings, active travel and tenants’ rights, working with the housing secretary and net zero secretary.
