The Environment Agency has appointed professional services consultancy WSP and environmental services provider Binnies to its Ecological Services Framework. The collaboration will leverage the expertise of both partners to help the Environment Agency restore and protect critical aquatic habitats, promoting long-term environmental sustainability.
The framework aims to enhance the Environment Agency’s capabilities in managing the nation’s water ecosystems. As part of the framework, the WSP/Binnies joint venture will provide services including specialist macroinvertebrate survey and sample analysis; fish passage assessment and design; river restoration; and catchment assessment and design.
The partners said the work carried out under the framework will be essential in helping many of the nation’s water bodies reach a good ecological status by restoring natural flow regimes, increasing habitat diversity, improving water quality, and restoring natural functioning.
