Wild Justice starts legal action on Planning Bill

Nature champion Wild Justice has sent a Pre-Action Protocol letter to deputy prime minister and housing secretary Angela Rayner, requesting she correct the Parliamentary record over the impact the Planning and Infrastructure Bill will have on the environment.

Rayner said in introducing the Bill that it would not result in a weakening of environmental protection offered by current regulations. Wild Justice argued this is “factually and legally incorrect” and wants the record to reflect that, “to ensure that MPs are not misled when they come to vote on the bill”.

Wild Justice added it will bring a claim for judicial review if Rayner does not correct her statement.

Many others, including the Office for Environmental Protection, have asserted the Bill will weaken existing environmental protections.
