Waterwise consults on UK Water Efficiency Strategy revamp
Waterwise is consulting until 3 September on revamping its 2017 UK Water Efficiency Strategy, which had a five year span.
The strategy aimed to raise ambition and delivery on water efficiency in the UK and has driven lots of positive change. But along with the scheduled review, Waterwise noted a lot has changed since the last strategy was co-created: “In the last five years we’ve seen increased recognition of the climate emergency and net zero; increased concern about the ecological emergency and the impacts of abstraction on chalk streams; rapid developments in technical areas such as smart metering; Brexit; and a global pandemic which resulted in a complete reconfiguration in how the water sector works and where, how and when we all use water.”
Waterwise has assembled a task and finish group of water companies and regulators from all four nations of the UK to steer the rewrite, and is initially consulting on broad questions such as on scope and timescale for the Strategy 2.0. It will consult for a second time once the draft strategy is ready for review.
