Water UK research finds many homes are not winter-ready
Many people leave themselves exposed to winter risks to their water supply because they do not take simple actions to boost the resilience of their homes.
New research commissioned by Water UK found 22% of the UK public do nothing to prepare for winter, leaving themselves at risk of damage to pipes and potential internal flooding or water damage.
Moreover:
• 33% don’t know where to locate their stopcock in an emergency.
• 23% service their boiler less than the recommended once a year.
• 40% didn’t know that the homeowner is responsible for maintaining the water pipes in in the home.
The research was commissioned as part of a Water UK campaign to help customers prepare their homes for winter by offering information and advice.
