The government has rowed back from the sunsetting provision of the Retained European Union (EU) Law Bill, which would have seen all EU-derived rules that are not actively kept or amended taken of the statute book at the end of this year.
Answering an urgent question, business and trade secretary, Kemi Badenoch, said that the plan now iwas to provide Parliament with a list of retained EU laws the government plans to repeal instead.
The initial indications suggest the Water Framework Directive and Habitats Regulations will stay, offering ongoing protections to nature and the water environment.
