United Utilities appoints director to new business arm

United Utilities has appointed Tony Slater as director to lead its new Enterprise organisation which has been charged with delivering £2.5bn of complex design and build capital investment improvements in AMP8.

Civil engineer, Slater (pictured), has senior experience of rail and highways projects with Balfour Beatty. As managing director of National Highways’ SMP Alliance – a collaborative operation with seven member organisations and 100 supplier partners – he contributed to its delivery of strategic road network projects valued at £1.2bn.

The water firm’s capital delivery, engineering and commercial director, Jane Simpson, said Slater “impressed us with a truly collaborative approach, and his experience mobilising and leading multidisciplinary teams in alliance environments.”
