Media firm, Corporate Knights, has included United Utilities and Severn Trent Water in its latest annual index of “the 100 most sustainable businesses in the world.”
United Utilities was ranked 24th in the index with Severn Trent at 31st.
Corporate Knights said it analysed and compared 6,733 publicly traded companies with a minimum gross revenue of $1bn against global industry peers.
It said its ranking of companies in 38 industry groups, including banking, utilities, mining, oil and gas, and manufacturing is based on 25 performance indicators. They included sustainable investment, carbon productivity, health and safety performance and racial and gender diversity. Other measures included gender and racial diversity, chief executive pay versus employee average, and chief executive bonuses based on sustainability performance, taxes paid and contributions to employee pensions.
