Thames signs up trio of joint ventures to support its strategic resources plan

Thames Water has concluded the procurement of a Technical Partner Framework procurement to support the delivery of its Strategic Resource Options (SRO) Programme.

Thames awarded the Technical Partner Framework to three consortiums: Arup and Binnies; AtkinsRéalis and Stantec and Jacobs & Mott MacDonald .

The framework will give the company access to professional support services worth up to £300m as it works to advance a number of strategic projects to address future water supply challenges.

The proposed SRO forms part of Thames Water’s draft Water Resource Management Plan, which includes a potential new reservoir in Oxfordshire and new river abstraction point on the River Thames supported by water recycling.

Thames Water said it sought partners that demonstrated “extensive experience in developing and supporting large complex infrastructure projects in the current UK planning environment.”

The company predicts that, across London and the Thames Valley, it will need an additional 1,000 ML of water every day for its customers in the next 50 years. It said the framework will support the delivery of the major infrastructure needed to meet the water scarcity challenges ahead, including climate change and a growing population.
