Surfers slate "summer of sewage"
Surfers Against Sewage secured major news coverage last week after promoting data from its Safer Seas and Rivers Service which showed pollution warnings in place for scores of beaches across England and Wales following heavy rain – many of them along popular south coast resorts.
Across various television and media interviews, SAS chief executive Hugo Tagholm slated the industry for years of underinvestment, treating rivers and beaches as open sewers, and putting profit before people or the planet. He endorsed the Environment Agency’s position that jail sentences should be considered for water bosses whose companies pollute. Some of this coverage can be viewed HERE.
