Strategic water resource schemes clear RAPID’s first investment gate
All strategic water resource infrastructure schemes put forward by partnerships of water companies have cleared the first investment gate put in place by the Regulators’ Alliance for Progressing Infrastructure Development (RAPID).
The exception was the South East Strategic Reservoir Option, otherwise known as the Abingdon reservoir, which for procedural reasons a decision will be issued for on 5 January.
Nine water firms are involved in the schemes – which include transfers, reservoirs and effluent reuse – which have now cleared RAPID’s Gate One. Regulators found all the proposed investment to be efficient and did not impose any incentive penalties.
Separately, RAPID published a consultation exploring all the regulatory and commercial policy options posed by these complex, multi-company strategic schemes. This included on procurement model, incentives, risk and reward, quality regulation, charging, and system coordination.
