Spring opens emerging contaminants innovation challenge

by Karma Loveday

Water innovation hub Spring has opened its fourth ‘accelerator challenge’ for applications.

The question posed is: ‘How can we better understand, monitor and manage emerging contaminants in wastewater?’

Innovators are invited to pitch solutions and ideas by 25 November on all aspects of the wastewater treatment train. Spring explained: “This can include but is not limited to: assessing the risks posed by emerging contaminants, monitoring, concentration, removal, destruction and exploration of their circular economy potential. Successful solutions will not only help safeguard the environment but help water companies to go beyond regulatory requirements and prevent the risks posed from emerging contaminants as close to source as they can.”

The Spring Accelerator programme seeks specific, implementable innovations for water companies to trial, progress and adopt as a collaborative group. Each challenge begins with problem identification, puts out a call for innovation, and mobilises trials with multiple water companies.

Accelerator 4 is supported by RSE. More details here: https://spring-innovation.co.uk/spring-accelerator-4/
