Southern Water offers incentives to Hampshire businesses to cut consumption

Southern Water is now offering a water-saving incentive for businesses based in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, where a hosepipe ban is in place. The aim is to support its efforts to cut leaks, and household efforts to cut consumption, following the very dry and hot spring – to reduce abstraction needs and prevent further water restrictions being needed later in the year.

Any metered business in the area can take part. They must submit one meter read between 1-8 August and another 1-8 December. Participants that manage to use 10% less between 1 August and 30 November compared to the same period in 2024 will receive a volumetric adjustment equivalent to 10% of their 2024/25 wholesale water charges, to be returned to them as credit in their account via their retailer, by January 2026.

Southern reported that this initiative was first used in the 2022 drought to accompany the hosepipe ban then, and it helped save 8m litres of water over three months.
