Southern Water offers businesses in Hampshire discounts for saving water

Southern Water has launched a scheme to offer businesses in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight discounts on their bills for using less water, as water levels in the iconic chalk rivers Test and Itchen continue to drop.

The scheme – called You’ll Save, We’ll Pay – offers businesses 10%, 20% or 25% of their

wholesale water charges if they save the equivalent amount of water for three months (September, October and November) compared to their 2019 average usage pre-covid.

The move is an attempt to avoid the need to impose restrictions on businesses to protect river levels later in the autumn, and follows the imposition of a hosepipe ban on domestic customers. Southern said: “Residential customers have reduced their use by about 10%, now businesses need to play their part so that total demand drops.” It added that it had stepped up its own leak repair activities too.
