Severn Trent Water joins new sign ups to Kraken utility operating platform

Severn Trent Water has signed a deal to licence the Kraken utility operating platform, to serve its 4.6m customers.

Built by Octopus Energy, the Kraken operating model has reportedly disrupted the energy sector in drastically reducing cost-to-serve and improving customer and employee satisfaction.

With Kraken, Severn Trent said it will be able to launch products for its smart meter customers to support leakage and consumption reduction, and use artificial intelligence in its call centres to improve customer service interactions.

The Severn Trent deal is Kraken’s latest licensing agreement outside of energy. with Portsmouth Water as the first UK water company to sign up. Broadband company, Cuckoo was another recent deal and Tokyo Gas signed on the same day as Severn Trent.

According to Kraken, these latest deals bring the total number of Kraken-managed energy, water and broadband accounts to 40-50m – halfway towards the company's goal of managing 100m by 2027.
