SES Water to roll out intelligent technology across its entire water network
SES Water has claimed an industry first in announcing plans to roll out leak-busting intelligent technology across its entire water distribution network.
The company said the network will be self learning, and highlight issues in near real-time enabling faster response times when issues occur. This will support plans to cut leaks by 15% by 2025 and in half by 2045, and reduce supply interruptions for customers. Additional benefits include reduced abstraction, lower risk of pollution and reduction in operational carbon emissions.
The work will be delivered in partnership with Vodafone, which will support the system with its Narrow Band Internet of Things (NB-IoT) service; Technolog as supplier of the network sensors to measure flow, pressure, transients and water temperature; and Royal HaskoningDHV which is providing its AI-powered technology to enable SES Water to analyse the data being collected and make near real-time operational decisions.
SES Water’s head of asset strategy, Daniel Woodworth, said: “This is a game changing milestone, not just for us and our customers, but for the water industry as a whole.”
