Scottish Water investment tops £1bn
Scottish Water investment exceeded £1bn for the first time, the company’s annual report for 2023-24 showed.
The company hit or exceeded most targets for the year, including on drinking water quality, customer satisfaction, bathing water quality and reducing pollutions. It also cut its emissions further and was ahead of schedule on installing combined sewer overflow monitors.
The biggest challenge came from unpredictable weather, including high temperatures, heavy and unpredictable rainfall and winter storms. Leakage rose. Other challenges came from high inflation rates and supply chain issues.
Chief executive, Alex Plant, said: “Looking ahead, we will need to secure the right level of investment and continue to innovate to ensure we can adapt to our changed climate.”
He added: “I am convinced we are on the right course to drive performance, deliver significant levels of investment, and further strengthen our customer focus. It will require collaboration and determination, but I am confident it can be done.”
