RSK launches platform for global smart meter data sharing

RSK Group has launched the Water Data Exchange, a global digital platform for water utilities to share smart meter data and derive demand and consumption insights.

The platform, which was launched at Singapore International Water Week last week, seeks to enable international learnings to promote water efficiency, against the backdrop of climate change and continued environmental challenges. It will be free to access for utilities who are willing to share their data in the platform.

RSK Water Data Exchange project lead and head of digital water Thomas Allen said that, by sharing aggregated smart metering data, the Water Data Exchange would give utilities greater visibility outside of their supply areas and facilitate a standardised approach to per capita consumption around the world. Moreover, by providing immediate access to real-time, updated information and reports for analysing water consumption data, the platform will facilitate insights into water usage patterns and trends, and enable informed decision making for effective water management and policy formulation. In addition, Allen said, it could benefit academic research and drive innovation.

RSK operates across 40 countries and has more than 200 environmental, engineering and technical services businesses. It collaborated with a number of global utilities ahead of the launch.
