RAPID clears strategic water resource schemes to continue development

RAPID has cleared 12 strategic water resource schemes to progress through gate two in its process to the next stage of development.

The 12 schemes, which include new reservoirs in Oxfordshire, Lincolnshire, and Cambridgeshire as well as recycling schemes and transfers, will now receive ring-fenced funding to further investigate the technical issues and environmental impacts to inform decision-making by companies on the best-value solutions.

Seven water companies are involved. Ultimate decisions will be taken through the Water Resources Management Planning (WRMP) process overseen by UK and Welsh Governments. The schemes will also need to obtain planning permission and other permits.
