RAPID clears Fens Reservoir to continue development

RAPID has cleared the Fens Reservoir to continue to the next stage of development.

The reservoir, being developed by Anglian Water and Cambridge Water, will progress to RAPID’s gate three stage, planned for September – although the regulators indicated there could be some flexibility in the timetable if necessary and asked for check-ins in March and May regarding environmental assessments and the requirements of the Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive.

RAPID asked the Fens developers to engage with Severn Trent and Affinity Water on plans for the Grand Union Canal, Graham Rede Pipeline and Cambridge Transfer Water Grid, to further explore “how the ‘system’ of interdependent schemes can be optimised to deliver the best outcome for customers and the environment”.

The decision was draft and open to responses until 4 March.
