Public grasp of inflation impact aids global water firms to justify bill hikes to regulators
by Karma Loveday
Greater water customer acceptance of soaring, inflation fuelled global bill hikes has enabled water utilities worldwide to “justifying these increases to their governing bodies and city councils,” according to Global Water Intelligence (GWI).
The increase in understanding from customers was “primarily attributed to growing recognition of the global inflation trend,” GWI reported.
Inflation has fuelled an eight-year record in global water tariffs according to GWI’s report from its latest Global Water Tariff Survey. The publication reported that, between July 2022 and July 2023, average water, wastewater, and stormwater bills increased 8.2% – the second highest recorded by the survey.
