by Trevor Loveday

Portsmouth Water has named suppliers in the running for contracts worth £140 million in its Havant Thicket Reservoir project.

Portsmouth said it has issued formal invites to tender for the two main work packages – the main reservoir and its associated pipeline. Contracts are due to be awarded in March 2022.

Suppliers invited to tender are:

Main reservoir

• Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering;

• HOCHTIEF (UK) Construction; and

• a joint venture of J. T. Mackley & Co. and Jones Bros Ruthin

Reservoir pipeline

• Clancy Docwra;

• Farrans Construction;

• Roadbridge UK; and

• Ward & Burke Construction.

Portsmouth said Havant Thicket Reservoir project – a collaboration with Southern Water – “will secure critical water supplies for the South East of England, an area under serious water stress. It will also help protect environmentally sensitive chalk streams and create a new, green leisure facility for local communities and wildlife.”

Decisions on planning applications for the reservoir and its associated pipeline are expected by summer 2021.
