Over half of customers would welcome a tariff that incentivises water saving. That’s according to this month’s Water Voice consumer panel research from the Consumer Council for Water (CCW).
Water Voice is made up of 16 regional consumer panels, one for each water company in England and Wales, with around 50 customers serving as panellists on each. Each month, CCW tracks customer sentiment against consistent questions, and does a ‘spotlight survey’ on a specific theme. Last month’s spotlight focus was the environment.
55% said they would like to be provided with a tariff that incentivises them to use less water, and 49% were interested in their water company offering free or subsidised devices to save water at home.
Meanwhile 76% said protecting the environment should be one of the top priorities for their water company, but only 22% believed enough is currently being done.
Community members added that they want their companies to focus on tangible issues such as leakage, saving water, wastewater systems, river and bathing water quality and preparing for climate change.
