Ofwat grants self-supply licence to Sainsbury's

by Trevor Loveday

Ofwat has granted Sainsbury’s self-supply water supply and sewerage licences.

The supermarket firm has extended its tie with water management firm Waterscan which will manage its retail operations under the new licence at its 1,400 Sainsbury’s stores, and 900 Argos stores.

In its business plans accompanying its application for self supply the retailer said self supply “will offer further opportunities for innovation in delivering its water strategies in the future,” adding self-supply would inform its water targets, and enable it to “drive change and innovation in the market.“ Sainsbury’s previously, had two water retailers to cover its English sites.
