Ofwat finds it benefits each household by £39

Ofwat has estimated it provides £39 of benefit per household.

Considering its price review, casework and enforcement and market development work, the regulator said that, on average, the yearly customer benefits yielded are worth at least £1.13bn a year, against an average annual budget over 2018/19-2020/21 of ca. £30m. It said the benefits are seen are seen in the form of lower bills for customers and through improved performance, compared to what water companies had proposed.

In a paper, Measuring Ofwat’s impact, the regulator noted this is only a partial estimate of its impact and there are many areas where it makes a difference which are not reflected in this report.
