Ofwat calls for open and honest culture in whistleblowing expectations for companies
Ofwat has set out its expectations of good whistleblowing policies and procedures for the water industry which
include:
a clear understanding of whistleblowing law (when a direct or indirect employee raises concerns about improper practices in the workplace);
an open and honest culture;
multiple and alternative channels for staff to speak up;
a comprehensive written policy; regular reviews of whistleblowing policies;
a clear process for managing disclosures;
clear outcomes; board and executive oversight; and
regular communications and training for workers.
Ofwat said it considered having an effective whistleblowing culture and procedures to be relevant to water company licence obligations, in particular, Licence Condition P which requires adequate systems of planning and internal control.
The consultation runs until 13 October.
