Ofwat approves smart, and photo meter reads for use in the business retail market

Ofwat has approved a change to the non-household retail market code that will enable smart meter reads and those from add on devices such as the Limpet reader to be used in the market, supporting accurate and timely bills.

Under CPW141a, which will be implemented on 23 August, code definitions will be updated to make it clear that a 'visual read' can be obtained from a clear photograph of the meter register and that a meter read (not just consumption data) from a smart meter can be accepted as a 'remote read'.
