Northumbrian Water wraps up AMP8 framework procurement

Northumbrian Water has reported the completion of its framework procurement for its £3.6bn capital investment programme (AMP8) with its appointment of 33 new partners to 11 procurement lots to work across the company’s Northumbrian Water and Essex & Suffolk Water operating areas.

The water company has claimed to have “provided a particular boost” to contractors in its operating areas, under its pledge to spend 60p in every £1 with regional suppliers.

It claims also to have “created opportunities” with “mentorship and guidance” for 11 new entrants into the water sector, with the “ultimate aim of building more capacity in an industry that is seeing significant investment growth”.

Assets director at Northumbrian Water Group, Monisha Gower, said: “AMP8 and beyond represent a huge challenge for us, as they do the whole water industry. We are nearly tripling our investment programme and this requires a significant increase in delivery capacity at a time when the rest of the sector, and construction as a whole are also preparing to ramp up activity.

Northumbrian Water Group (NWG) has signed the construction sector’s Construct Zero Five-Point Plan, to help to offset the carbon and environmental impact of its AMP8 programme and beyond. The plan was launched on 29th April when the construction sector invited clients to be co-signatories of the plan. Its purpose is, according to NWG, to create a clear demand for the transition to net zero within the construction industry.
