Northumbrian Water has launched a novel mobile water supply – developed by the company and Furst Technologies – that they claim will keep households provided with water during supply interruptions.
The 120-litre portable pressurised water supply, dubbed Mowbi, can, according to Northumbrian, be deployed quickly in emergency situations, or when essential works are required on the water network to “keep taps flowing”. It connects with the household supply to provide enough water to keep a household supplied for about six hours if used just for flushing toilets, drinking and cooking, and so reduces the need for bottled water, the company said.
Mowbis can be linked together to service the needs of customers on a large site or development. The water company said this capacity was tested earlier in the year at a nursery of more than 80 children in Chelmsford during repairs to a burst pipe.
Northumbrian and Furst have also developed a large-capacity version of the Mowbi which they claim can supply water for whole streets of houses, apartment blocks, and properties such as care homes and schools.
