Northumbrian trials smart metering roll-out in Essex with infrastructure firm Arqiva

Northumbrian Water has recruited UK communications infrastructure provider, Arqiva, under a five-year contract to deliver an initial roll-out of a smart metering network in Dagenham, Essex. Northumbrian has has committed to ensuring all its domestic meters are smart by 2035.

Arqiva will build and monitor the fixed-network infrastructure, for 11,000 domestic meters, replacing meters and installing new meters for un-metered supplies. Northumbrian plans to begin installations and to go live with the network in May. The company said this initial implementation in in its Essex and Suffolk Water subsidiary’s Reginas will inform the subsequent smart-meter roll-out over the rest of its operating regions.
