Northumbrian signs up Connexin in smart meter deal
Northumbrian Water has appointed UK-based smart technology and digital provider Connexin under a framework contract to create the network for the water company’s advanced water metering infrastructure.
The deal is Connexin’s fourth major smart water meter contract following wins at Yorkshire Water, Severn Trent Water, and Essex and Suffolk Water.
Northumbrian said Connexin will manage the supply and connectivity of more than 900,000 smart meters across the North East of England supply region. The contract follows Northumbrian Water’s recent agreement with Connexin to supply meter and data connectivity for a similar volume of smart water meters for its Essex and Suffolk Water subsidiary.
Head of smart programme at Northumbrian Water, Gary Adams, pledged: “The new communications network will enable us to capture real-time data across the region and help us to identify and fix leaks faster than ever before, to reduce waste and safeguard our environment.”
