MPs to scrutinise UK priorities at COP28

On Wednesday, the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC) will quiz energy security minister and the ministerial head of delegation for the UK at COP28, Graham Stuart, on the UK’s priorities for the summit. This will cover areas including climate finance, nature and sustainable cooling.

The committee said the session has been convened “amid concerns that UK climate leadership risks being diluted due to recently announced delayed targets on domestic net zero policies”. It will be seeking clarity on the UK’s overall progress in cutting emissions, including the commitment made at COP26 in Glasgow to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 68% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels.

The Resilience Hub agenda at COP28, which is taking place in Dubai, is now available to view: HERE. The hub has nine main themes: water and natural ecosystems; oceans and coasts; finance and investment; disaster risk management; food and agriculture; cities and urbanisation; infrastructure, energy and mobility; arts, culture and heritage; and health and wellbeing.
