MPs endorse sunset clause U-turn in Retained European Union Law Bill
by Karma Loveday
The Retained EU Law Bill returned to the House of Commons last week.
MPs supported the government’s sunset clause climb down, but resisted other Lords amendments which aimed to ensure environmental protections would not be weakened, and parliamentary scrutiny improved.
The Bill is due to return to the Lords on 6 June, where peers are expected to amend it again to boost protections for nature. It will then need to go back to the Commons for further voting.
