MOSL to store customer contact data for interim supply purposes

Ofwat has approved a code change proposal made by MOSL that will allow customer contact and billing data to be stored in a central location, in case it is needed in an interim supply situation.

At present, there is no formal mechanism for a supplier that takes a customer on following a retailer failure or exit to access even basic information such as billing contact name, address, email and telephone number. Ofwat noted this could lead to “significant customer detriment” in terms of experience, billing and communication.

Under CPW137, retailers are expected to collect and submit the required data to MOSL on a monthly basis for storage in a secure SharePoint environment. MOSL will extract and securely transfer the data to an interim supplier as needed. The change will be implemented on 27 October.
