M Group commits to join global zero carbon initiative

Morrison Water Services’ parent, M Group Services, has committed to join more than 1,000 companies in a global initiative to halve emissions before 2030 and achieve net-zero before 2050.

M Group has signed a letter of intent to join the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) – a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature to to set a science-based climate target.

M Group said the move was “one of many actions’ to enhance the Group’s environmental sustainability. The company said once it has succeeded in developing and implementing science-based emissions reduction targets in rthe near-term, “M Group Services will establish a long-term SBTi net-zero target.”

The targets, M Group explained, will focus on a reduction across all three of the internationally adopted standard scopes of greenhouse gas emissions covering direct emissions from (say) company vehicles; energy-related indirect emissions including purchased electricity; and emissions generated by the group’s value chain.

Director of ESG and Innovation at M Group Services, Andrew Hunt, said: “Throughout this target setting process, our team of experts will be working with all M Group Services operating businesses to assess how the carbon output of all our operations can be minimised.”
