Irish Water gets to grip with remedial water supplies
Irish Water has confirmed that the number of customers served by so-called vulnerable water supplies has reached its lowest level.
This milestone arrived as the state-owned company announced that it removed 16 sources of supplies from its Remedial Action List over the past 12 months, benefiting some 790,000 customers. The company has plans to remove all the supplies remaining on the list by 2025. The list is mainly the legacy of decades of under-investment in Ireland’s public water infrastructure.
The supplies targeted under this programme are typically being fitted with ultraviolet disinfection units, upgraded chlorination systems, and measures providing a fully validated treatment barrier for cryptosporidium.
