Ireland launches lead pipe removal initiative

by Karma Loveday

Irish housing and local government minister, Darragh O’Brien, has launched a campaign highlighting an improved grant scheme to remove lead pipes from homes.

Older housing stock built before the 1980s may contain lead pipes. Lead can be harmful to health if it contaminates drinking water.

The updated scheme provides funding for 100% of the approved cost of works up to €5,000.

The grant is administered by local authorities and is no longer means-tested.
