Future Rivers Forum and farming run-off fund launched for the North West

Writer: by Karma Lovedayby Karma Loveday

United Utilities and the Rivers Trust have convened a Future Rivers Forum for the North West, aimed at driving awareness that “river health is a problem that cannot be solved in silos, but needs practical, collaborative action”.

Along with the hosts, participants included leaders from local government, regulators, environmental charities, NGOs and farming. They discussed the challenges facing the region’s rivers, including climate change, population growth and pollution, as well as potential shared solutions.

As part of the proceedings, United Utilities announced a new £500,000 fund to help landowners reduce run-off into rivers. It will support the development of an agricultural network for at least ten farm clusters across the North West, to drive a more joined-up approach, align funding sources and accelerate efforts across the region to tackle farming-related issues impacting watercourses.
