Former HS2 boss Mark Thurston appointed to succeed Peter Simpson as Anglian CEO

Mark Thurston will take up post as Anglian Water group chief executive on 5 August. The board said last week he will join the business on 1 July and the boards of both Anglian Water and the Anglian Water Group on 5 August, when he will also succeed long standing chief executive Peter Simpson.

Thurston was chief executive of HS2 for six and a half years, and has held leadership roles for other major infrastructure projects including the London Olympics and Crossrail. Anglian said his 30 years of experience in both public and private sectors shows a strong track record on projects requiring complex stakeholder engagement, including high-profile regulatory and governmental interface.

Simpson will remain with the business as a strategic advisor to support a smooth leadership transition before taking retirement.
