Essex council publishes a water strategy

Updated: Mar 27, 2024

Essex County Council, in partnership with Water Resources East, has published a Water Strategy for Essex.

The strategy highlighted the county’s water stress, higher than the England average consumption and below national average water quality.

It made 30 recommendations for a wide range of parties, each falling into one of three camps: demand reduction, supply increase or changing land use with water in mind, including by boosting green infrastructure, wetlands and sustainable drainage.

Climate czar and councillor, Peter Schwer, said: "We must change our behaviours and make changes to our built environment and approach to land use now, to capture and supply the water we will all need in future.”
