East England duo to launch consultation on new fens reservoir
Anglian Water, working in partnership with Cambridge Water, will start consulting on Wednesday on plans for a new reservoir in the Cambridgeshire Fens, following a detailed site selection study. The companies announced today the proposed location will be north of Chatteris, near the villages of Doddington and Wimblington.
The reservoir will supply enough water for around a quarter of a million homes, as well as protecting the environment by enabling a reduction in the amount of water taken from rivers and underground aquifers elsewhere in the region. It will also create a new visitor destination, creating new jobs, and wider economic, environmental, leisure and health benefits for the local community.
The initial consultation will run from 12 October until the 21 December. An early concept design will be shared, showing some of the potential features such as wildlife areas, recreation and water sports, green infrastructure like cycleways and renewable energy.
• Separately, Anglian Water said as part of its net zero journey, 300 fully electric and hybrid vehicles will be going into operation, including 60 range-extended hybrid vans, 43 fully electric small vans, and 200 electric cars.
