Defra publishes evidence for Environment Act targets and extends response deadline

Defra has extended the closing date of its consultation on new targets set under the Environment Act from 11 May until 27 June.

This follows delays in the publication of supporting evidence and assumptions on some of the targets. For water, the detailed evidence and impact assessment are now available HERE

The main targets for the water industry are:

• water demand – reduce the use of public water supply in England per head of population by 20% by 2037 against a 2019/20 baseline; and

• reduce phosphorus loadings from treated wastewater by 80% by 2037 against a 2020 baseline.
