Defra proposes a timing change to the fourth round of climate adaptation reporting

Defra is seeking views from infrastructure operators and public bodies on the best approach to take to the fourth round of reporting under the Climate Change Act 2008’s Adaptation Reporting Power.

The central proposal is to change the timing of round four so that it can better inform future statutory UK Climate Change Risk Assessments and National Adaptation Programmes. The department also wants to streamline reporting requirements and is asking about the usefulness of reporting; how to improve on arrangements for future rounds; and what should be contained in the next strategy to benefit reporting organisations and government.

The consultation is open until 5 April.

Waterwise focuses on the Scottish context for its 2030 UK water efficiency strategy

Waterwise last week honed in on the Scottish context for its new UK-wide water efficiency strategy to 2030, with a dedicated session with Scottish water sector stakeholders.

Hosted by Business Stream in its Edinburgh headquarters, the event explored the strategy’s ten strategic objectives, the reasons for these, what needs to change, who needs to be involved and how progress should be tracked. The strategy, available at waterwise.org.uk/strategy2030 set a vision of “A UK in which all people, homes and organisations are water-efficient”.

Waterwise managing director Nicci Russell said: “There are some very real water scarcity pressures in Scotland and it was great to have so many colleagues in the room, committed to and already working on water efficiency as a key part of the solution to this - and fired up about supporting our Strategy! Water efficiency will help us adapt to the climate emergency - making the water we have go as far as it needs to - as well as tackle it by bringing down carbon and energy use.”
