Competition watchdog opens probe into Severn Trent Water's proposed biogas acquisition

The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has launched the first phase of its inquiry into Severn Trent Group’s anticipated acquisition of biogas producer, Andigestion. The first phase is to establish whether the merger may cause “a substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.”

The CMA has invited comments on the proposed transaction with a 3 July deadline for comments. The statutory deadline for its phase one decision on whether to move to phase two is 18 August 2023.
