Code change increases CMOS validation tolerance to reduce meter read rejections

Ofwat has approved a Code change proposal to increase the tolerance of volume validation requirements in CMOS, to reduce the number of meter reads that are being incorrectly rejected.

CPW128 amended the upper and lower volume validation thresholds; included more previous meter readings in the Prior Estimate Daily Volume to improve the reliability of the calculation; and corrected an anomaly preventing '0' (zero) consumption to be entered for vacant sites.

Ofwat said: “Improved validation thresholds should help retailers to identify where genuine problems exist with meters and, where necessary, prompt retailers and wholesalers to collaborate in finding and resolving issues as swiftly as possible. We consider that this should result in benefits for customers, as issues with meters will be identified and addressed in a timelier manner.”
