Bristol Water sets out 2021/22 social contract plans

Bristol Water has published its forward social contract programme for 2021-22.

The document provides an overview of the company’s social contract approach and details the activities it plans to undertake this year.


The activities are grouped into eight programmes reflecting the key partnerships involved. These are listed below along with example partners and initiatives:


• academic partnerships - including with the UWE and the University of Bristol to support student research.

• a community engagement programme - including Bristol’s water bar, water fountains and community volunteering;

• conservation programme – including sharing its natural capital Biodiversity Index tool and supporting the Bristol Green Capital Partnership to develop and deliver an Ecological Emergency Action Plan;

• education programme – including providing all schools and colleges in area with resources to deliver water knowledge and offering apprenticeships and work experience;

• lakeside leisure programme – including through improving community facilities and ensuring equality and access;

• regional strategies programme – working with Bristol City Council and others to contribute to carbon and ecological strategies, among other things;

• Resource West programme – building a partnership of local stakeholders which facilitates transformational shifts in consumer behaviour to reduce consumer consumption and waste; and

• vulnerability programme – working with debt advice partners, local charities and others on priority services, debt and payment.
