Barhale sales "stable" as projects are delayed

by Trevor Loveday

Civil engineering group, Barhale, reported turnover as “stable” at £109m for the year to 30 June 2022, up 1.3% on the previous year. After long-term water sector contracts “continued to suffer from delays in projects reaching their delivery phase.”

The company emphasised its position as being a “deferral as opposed to a loss of turnover as many of these projects must be concluded by 31st March 2025”. Profit before tax for the report period was up £1.9m to £3.2m.

It said its cash position had improved to just over £3m from a £4.3m deficit at the previous year end “driven by the completion of various major projects across the business.” Those included elements of five and ten year year frameworks started in April 2020 with “key water sector clients including: Anglian Water, Affinity Water, Severn Trent Water, Thames Water, and Yorkshire Water. It included also the completion of works for Thames Tideway.
