Barhale bags £9m tunnel clearing contract with Thames Water

The civil engineering firm will inspect 35km of raw water tunnels across West and North London and remove debris, silt and invasive species, such as Zebra Mussels, which have proliferated across the capital’s network with the most affected tunnels expected to hold some 140m3 of mussels.
Barhale will also carry out inspections and replacement/refurbishment of internal valves largely gate and butterfly types of up to 2.4m in diameter) at a number of sites.
Barhale said the work will follow from its delivery of the first three years of Thames Water’s AMP7 Tunnels and Aqueducts programme. Work is expected to complete in 2025.
