The UK water industry has, in the past two years, seen one of the biggest falls in people taking annual leave according to a report from human resources systems firm, Access People HR.
In its annual leave report, the company, found that the number of annual leave days taken by staff in the UK water and waste management industries fell 9% in the past two years. It reported that this came despite an 18% increase in average leave allowances in the sector.
Energy sector employees took almost 12 fewer days leave over the same period according to the report.
According to the report authors: “This could be due to the critical nature of these services, with a spotlight on the industry amid rising energy prices potentially creating pressure for employees to remain available at all times.”
They pointed out that the slide in leave taken came at a time of “increased push on employee wellness.”
