Anglian Water unveils £70m relief package for hard up homes

Anglian Water has created a £70m package of customer support for 2024 for customers struggling with the cost of living. The company estimated that the package will help some 380,000 customers over the period.

The support includes discounted tariffs on water bills of up to 50% for eligible customers, temporary payment plans, forgiveness schemes and payment breaks in certain circumstances. It also includes direct support through the Anglian Water Assistance Fund, which the company has described as “designed to help cover the cost of bills when people are going through the most challenging times”.

The new support is, Anglian said, part of a longer-term package under which the company has set aside more than £336m since 2020 to help customers in need. It said more than 1.3m customers have benefitted from its assistance since 2020.

From 2025, the water company is proposing to increase its support package for customers, which will include an “industry first”, in Medical Needs Discount. This will provide direct financial aid to customers with specified medical needs that create a high-water dependency, for example, home dialysis. Anglian said that the plan was “currently with industry regulator Ofwat for approval”.
